1.What’s the time line of the band so far?
The band was conceived sometime in the summer of 2009.Me and Chip(bass) got together after our previous band (Tafkata) had ceased being active. We hooked up with BT from Arm and Sword of a Bastard God for drums. One of the vocalists for Tafkata joined up as guitarist soon he took care of legal issues he was dealing with. After a few practices our vocalists Tim joined up, He was also in Arm and Sword…
We practiced for a few months, recorded 8 songs in February of 2010. The release that the 8 songs were meant for fell through but in September of that year Dom from a389 got a hold of us and said he wanted to do release. Our self titled LP was released in January 2011.
In Feb., Greg Anderson from Southern Lord contacted us and ended up releasing the LP on CD format which ended up including videos for all the songs.
We just released a split with our friends Children of God on A389. Vedavu is doing a 7in for our song Black Magic with some special material. In January we’ll have another release out through A389, 3 songs inspired by a movie from the 70’s and will include a 25 minute “movie” and bonus material.
We are currently writing new material that we hope to record early in 2012.
2.What first got you into music?
I’ve always enjoyed some aspect of music whether as an observer or participant. As an introvert, i’ve always enjoyed being able to listen to music and shut out the rest of the world and just get lost in a song or album; not having to deal with people for that time. But it was actually my sophomore English class that got me on the path of playing in bands. We had to retell an Edgar Allen Poe story in any format we wanted. A friend and I got a couple of guys together and recorded a song to present to the class. I did vocals, we passed out lyric sheets….it was pretty bad, but we ended up starting a band because of it.
3.What was the first thing you did when your last band broke up ?
Tafkata never really broke up on at a specific time. Our drummer moved out of Southern California but we still played a handful of shows with BT. We realized it just made more sense to do something new. At that point it had been probably 3 years since we had even recorded anything. So, I don’t remember what I did but it wasn’t a big shock. I guess I just assumed I would end up doing another band since I still had song ideas.
4.Future plans for the band/life?
For the band, we want to keep on writing and recording as much as possible. we have been lucky that the way we write has really been a collaborative effort so everyone gets involved and focused, but still fun. we just show up to a practice see who has a riff and go off that. As long as we can continue to have people interested in listening to music we create while just hanging out then we are in good shape.
Personally, I don’t know what the future holds. I’m too undecided to look to far ahead. Although I guess in my thirties I probably should put more thought into it. But for now, I’m able to eat, drink and almost always pay the bills so I can’t really complain.
5.10 records you bought recently?I can barely remember what I had for lunch, so last 10 record purchases is tough. But what I do remember, in absolutely no order: Low places - Violent Hunger cassette / The Arm and Sword of a Bastard God - Bauzer sessions casstte / Mouth of the Architect - Time and Withering / Sons of Tonatiuh - S/T lp / Meth Drinker - S/T / Snakerider - Moon Mistress split / Pharoah - S/T 7”.Those are the last ones I can recall. How about the first 3 I remember purchasing myself to round out the 10? Anthrax = Among the Living / D.R.I - Thrash Zone / Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
